6.1 New Caledonia

This tribute to the artist’s father Aimé contains 22 oil on canvas paintings.Inspiration is found in the job of the artist (drawing hydrographical maps), and in the life of his grandfather A.D.K. who, as a woodcutter, build miniature ships ...

Also the painter's father inspired him with his knowledge of the French overseas areas like Mauritius, St.Pierre et Miquelon, the Hebrides, the Marquis island, Tongo and ... New Caledonia with its capital Noumea.

And inspired by the only inhabitant of New Caledonia the artist knows: a sculptor and family of the artist’s father.

So with this background, it was really easy to make an imaginary travel through the pacific.

On this travel the painter meets a lot of different people, scientists and explorers like Humboldt, Cook, Beautemps, Beauprez ... But the most interesting and inspiring meetings were those with another famous scientist, Dr. Johannes Leunis, a biologist.

"Au musée de Noumea" (At the Noumea museum), "Only for you" and other paintings in this series raise the atmosphere of what once was the Noumea national museum of nature and history, that has been destroyed by termites!

The apotheosis of this series is called The unicorn which is about 3 meter high.

Deze reeks - "Nieuw Caledonië" - is een ode aan mijn vader Aimé, ze bestaat uit 22 olie op canvas schilderijen.

Een belangrijke inspiratiebron is de job van de kunstenaar - scheepvaartkaarten samenstellen - en die van zijn grootvader A.D.K., een houtsnijder, kunstenaar en modelmaker. Maar ook zijn vader oefende een grote invloed uit door zijn kennis van de franse overzeese gebieden zoals Mauritius, St.Pierre en Miquelon, de Hebride eilanden, de Marquis eilanden, Tongo en ... Nieuw CaledoniÎ met hoofdstad Noumea.

De enige inwoner van Nieuw Caledonië die hij kent is een beeldhouwer, familie van zijn vader, die nog steeds op het eiland woont.

Dus al deze dingen bij elkaar is het makkelijk om een denkbeeldige reis te ondernemen door de Pacific

Op deze reis ontmoet de schilder verschillende mensen: wetenschappers, ontdekkingsreizigers zoals Humboldt, Cook, Beautemps, Beauprez ... Maar de meest interessante en inspirerende ontmoetingen zijn met een andere beroemde wetenschapper, Dr. Johannes Leunis, een bekend bioloog.

"Au musÈe de Noumea" (In het museum van Noumea), "Only for you", en vele andere werken in deze serie scheppen de sfeer van het ooit bestaande nationaal natuur-historisch museum van Noumea, dat volledig vernietigd werd door termieten!

De apotheose van deze serie is genaamd "De eenhoorn", ongeveer 3 meter hoog.
